Take Charge America Expands Free Housing Counseling and Mortgage Assistance Services to California Residents

EL CENTRO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb 5, 2025--

No matter where they need extra support in their housing journeys, California homeowners and renters can now receive free, confidential housing counseling and mortgage assistance services from Take Charge America, a national nonprofit agency offering credit counseling, HUD-approved housing counseling and debt management services.

Recently awarded a $250,500 grant from the California Housing Finance Agency (CalHFA), Take Charge America is accepting virtual appointments statewide for the following needs:

• Rental Delinquency for renters who cannot afford monthly payments or have already missed monthly payments.
• Mortgage Delinquency for homeowners who are struggling to meet mortgage payments and at risk of foreclosure.
• Reverse Mortgage Delinquency for senior homeowners at risk of defaulting on their reverse mortgage loan.
• Pre-Purchase Counseling for new prospective homebuyers who need assistance with the homebuying process and seeking opportunities to qualify for government-backed mortgage assistance programs.
• Post-Purchase Counseling for new homeowners who need an action plan for protecting their housing investment.
• Rental Counseling for first-time or lower-income renters who need an action plan with the application process and budgeting.
