SUSPECT TAKES PLEA DEAL IN YOUNG DOLPH SHOOTING
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – One of four defendants charged in the shooting death of Young Dolph has pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact. Twenty-six-year-old Jermarcus Johnson acknowledged helping two of the suspects communicate with each other and help one of them communicate with his probation officer after the killing. Young Dolph was shot at a Memphis bakery in 2021. Johnson initially had been charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. He will be sentenced at a later date.
JONI MITCHELL RETURNS TO THE CONCERT STAGE
QUINCY, Washington (AP) – Joni Mitchell got several ovations Saturday with her first ticketed performance in more than 23 years. Mitchell played a sold-out show in Quincy, Washington, that lasted nearly three hours. Special guests included Brandi Carlile, Sarah McLachlan, Marcus Mumford and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes.
MEMORIAL HELD FOR CYNTHIA WEIL
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) – Tony Orlando did not want tears as he hosted a private memorial for songwriter Cynthia Weil yesterday in Beverly Hills, California. He told mourners it was a sunny celebration and he wanted the applause to be loud. Weil died last week at the age of 82. Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers said via video that Weil and her husband, Barry Mann, did not just write them a hit song with “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’,” “they wrote us a career!” Dolly Parton said via video her career was sent “out into space” when Weil and Mann wrote the song “Here You Come Again” for her. Others who attended the memorial were Mann and songwriters Carole King, Jeff Barry, Mike Stoller and Diane Warren.
ELVIS PRESLEY'S COUSIN IS RUNNING FOR MISSISSIPPI GOVERNOR
GRENADA, Miss. (AP) – The Democratic challenger in Mississippi to first-term Republican Gov. Tate Reeves is Elvis Presley’s second cousin. Brandon Presley was born a few days before Elvis died. Brandon Presley previously was mayor of Nettleton, Mississippi, population 2000, and is completing his fourth term with the Mississippi Public Service Commission. Presley is unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
STRAY KIDS PICK UP THIRD #1 WITH “5 STAR”
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Stray Kids’ “5 Star” debuts at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart. It moved 249,500 units in the past week. It’s their third number-one album. Stray Kids record mostly in Korean but some English. They have yet to chart a song on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart. “One Thing At A Time” by Morgan Wallen is in second, followed by Jelly Roll’s “Whitsitt Chapel.” Another K-pop act, ENHYPHEN, debut in fourth with “Dark Blood.” Taylor Swift’s “Midnights” drops from first to fifth.
