ROGER WATERS PROTESTED IN GERMANY

BERLIN (AP) – Jewish groups protested Roger Waters’ concert in Frankfurt, Germany, yesterday, saying he’s antisemitic and the concert never should have taken place. The concert was at the Festhalle, which in 1938 was a site where Nazis rounded up more than 3,000 Jews, abused them and sent them to concentration camps. Frankfurt authorities had tried to stop the concert, but Waters successfully challenged the move in court. Last week, police in Berlin say they are investigating Waters on suspicion of incitement. Social media videos from that concert show Waters in a long black coat with a red armband, holding an imitation machine gun. Waters has denied being antisemitic. He says he is making a statement about fascism and bigotry in his concerts, and attempts to portray them as anything else are “disingenuous and politically motivated.”

ED AMES OF THE AMES BROTHERS DIES

UNDATED (AP) – The youngest member of the singing group The Ames Brothers has died. Ed Ames died May 21 from Alzheimer’s disease, according to his wife. Ames was 95. The Ames Brothers had a string of hits in the 1950s, including “Rag Mop,” “Sentimental Me” and “The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane.” The grind of traveling got to them as rock and roll took over. Ames once said they decided to quit when he came home unexpectedly and his wife asked, “Who is it?” His three-year-old daughter answered, “One of the Ames Brothers." Ames turned to acting, with his most famous role being Mingo on the TV series “Daniel Boone.”

ACCUSED TAKEOFF SHOOTER INDICTED

HOUSTON (AP) – A grand jury has indicted a man accused of fatally shooting rapper Takeoff of Migos last year. The attorney for Patrick Xavier Clark says the indictment was not unexpected. She says Clark’s legal team expect a jury to see the evidence and return a verdict of not guilty. Police say Takeoff was an “innocent bystander” as more than 30 people were leaving a private party at a bowling alley in Houston on Nov. 1. Police say gunfire broke out during a “lucrative” game of dice. Clark’s next court hearing is set for Aug. 23.
