Number of new Pennsylvania virus cases dips below 1,000

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania is reporting fewer than 1,000 new coronavirus infections for a ninth consecutive day even as the state surpassed 4,600 total deaths. Health officials said Tuesday the case count is nearly 64,000 since the beginning of the pandemic. Pennsylvania has been reporting fewer cases lately after exceeding 1,000 new confirmed infections on all but three days last month. Gov. Tom Wolf has begun relaxing social distancing and business restrictions in more than half the state’s counties. The number of infections is thought to be far higher than the official count because many people may have the virus but not have been tested.
