Cool Effect, a Bay Area based nonprofit that supports high integrity carbon emission reduction and removal projects around the globe, has released its first-ever Impact Report. The new report illustrates how over $66 million in carbon finance—generated through the sale of high-quality carbon credits—is driving measurable environmental and socioeconomic benefits to communities worldwide.

This landmark document demonstrates the nonprofit’s commitment to transparency but also serves as a testament to the impactful contributions to carbon projects over a period of five years, with data aggregated from January 2020 to December 2024. The findings highlight direct investments in forest conservation, methane reduction, clean energy access, biodiversity restoration, and community development.

• 7,677,832 tonnes of carbon retired over five years
• 43+ communities in Mexico supported through sustainable forestry initiatives
• 350,000+ people impacted by clean cookstove programs, installing over 90,000 clean burning cookstoves and reducing household air pollution in homes by 47%
• 1,189,223 tonnes of methane emissions destroyed, eliminating a potent greenhouse gas
• 40,931,340 mangroves can be planted thanks to funds generated by Cool Effect projects, a vital component to restoring coastal ecosystems and strengthening climate resilience
• 2,226,936 hectares of land protected, securing biodiversity and carbon sequestration benefits

For nearly a decade, Cool Effect has operated under the principle of Carbon Done Correctly, a commitment to supporting only the highest quality carbon projects that pass its rigorous vetting and selection process. The nonprofit has reviewed over 5,000 carbon projects throughout the course of its history with 54 projects (around 1%) having passed the organization’s rigorous evaluation and due diligence process.
