The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) recently announced the recipients of the 2025 ACVIM Recognition Awards during the 2025 ACVIM Forum in Louisville, Kentucky. The winners are accomplished veterinary internal medicine professionals and ACVIM Diplomates who have demonstrated professional excellence, dedicated service, and expertise, making a significant impact on the wellbeing of animals and advancing the veterinary profession. Joan R. Coates, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Neurology), Professor of Veterinary Neurology and Neurosurgery at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine, is the recipient of the Robert W. Kirk Award for Professional Excellence for her outstanding career and lifetime of contributions to the ACVIM and veterinary internal medicine.

Wendy A. Ware, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Cardiology), Professor Emerita at the University of Iowa College of Veterinary Medicine, is the recipient of the Lee & Inge Pyle ServiceAward for her record of outstanding and dedicated service in a volunteer capacity to the ACVIM.

Raelene M. Wouda, BVSc, DACVIM (Oncology), MANZCVS, Veterinary Oncologist at Veterinary Specialist Services of Queensland, Australia, is the recipient of the William R. Fenner Early Career Award for Outstanding Service for her exceptional service to the ACVIM in a volunteer capacity within the first 10 years following Board-certification.

Warwick M. Bayly, BVSc, MS, PhD, DACVIM (LAIM), Professor of Equine Medicine at the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine, is the recipient of the Specialty Lifetime Achievement Award in large animal internal medicine (LAIM) for his significant contributions and years of leadership in the LAIM specialty.

Each year, ACVIM Recognition Award recipients are selected by a rotating committee of ACVIM Diplomates, based on peer nominations and the honorees’ outstanding contributions to the field.
