Anthony Miles, Director of Health and Safety at IHI Power Services Corp. (IPSC), honored with the 2025 NAEM Leadership in Action Award.

With more than 25 years of EHS&S experience spanning coal, biomass, natural gas and renewable energy, Miles is celebrated for his people-first philosophy and ability to transform safety from a procedural requirement into a collective commitment. His approach is rooted in the belief that safety is about protecting lives, requiring action, shared responsibility and a mindset where everyone looks out for each other.

“Anthony has improved IPSC’s safety performance while instilling a strong sense of shared stewardship across our team,” said Tony Dabbene, IPSC’s chief executive officer and chief financial officer. “Through his leadership, employees across our fleet are empowered to speak up, step in and ensure everyone gets home safely. His expertise, purpose and compassion illustrate what a true culture of care can achieve.”

Under Miles’ direction, IPSC has accomplished a remarkable transformation in safety outcomes and engagement across its nationwide portfolio of nearly 40 power plants. Since 2024, the company’s total recordable incident rate (TRIR) has dropped to 0.60—significantly outperforming the industry benchmark of 1.7. He also implemented a behavior-based observation program that drives over 750 proactive safety interventions per month, reinforcing accountability, awareness and collaboration at every level.

“This award is a testament to the incredible team at IPSC,” said Miles. “Every day, our employees step up to look out for one another, share lessons learned, and support new safety initiatives. I’m grateful for this recognition—and even more proud of how our programs, from behavior-based observations to companywide safety campaigns, have emboldened our people to take ownership and make safety part of everything we do.”

Miles’ initiatives include standardizing training across diverse fuel types and ownership groups, expanding IPSC’s corporate safety department and promoting open dialogue through weekly companywide safety messages, bi-monthly campaigns and regional engagement sessions. Together, these efforts have strengthened operational consistency, accountability and employee engagement across the fleet—proving that when technical expertise is matched with humanity and collaboration, lasting change follows.
