Garment District Alliance Officers Committee Voices Support for Caesars Palace Times Square in Letter to Council Member Erik Bottcher

Today, the Garment District Alliance Officer’s Committee formally announced its support of Caesars Palace Times Square – the joint bid from SL Green, Caesars Entertainment, JAY-Z’s Roc Nation, and Live Nation to bring a state-of-the-art gaming and entertainment destination to 1515 Broadway.

The Officer’s endorsement marks a significant milestone in the licensing process as community voices line up ahead of the project’s final public hearing this Thursday. By sending the letter as part of the CAC review process, the Alliance officers underscored the importance of community investment in safety, small business support, and public realm improvements.

In a September 4th letter addressed to Council Member Erik Bottcher in his role as a key decision maker for the Community Advisory Committee process, Barbara A. Blair, President of the Garment District Alliance, outlined the Officer Committee's support for the project, emphasizing several key strengths of the bid: repurposing an existing building, prohibiting gambling on the ground floor, generating revenue for both the neighborhood and the city, and limiting hotel rooms, restaurants, and retail in order to drive visitors to local businesses. In addition, the Committee highlighted SL Green’s substantial commitment to public safety and public realm improvements, including tens of millions of dollars in investments that will enhance lighting, sanitation, and pedestrian safety along 7th and 8th Avenues and throughout the Garment District.

The coalition supporting the bid now includes more than 300 organizations and businesses including local restaurants, hotels, residents, unions and Broadway stakeholders who stand to benefit from—rather than compete with—this exciting new project.
