PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct 6, 2025--

Braskem’s I’m green™ bio-based brand will participate in Sustainable Brands 2025, held in San Diego, Calif., from Oct. 13 to 16 to raise awareness about carbon footprint and its impact on climate change. Backed by more than 200 Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) data, the company will engage in discussions and showcase how replacing traditional fossil-based materials with bio-based alternatives can significantly reduce carbon emissions and support the transition to a low-carbon circular economy.

Attendees can explore I’m green™ bio-based at its booth, in program sessions, and through dedicated conversations designed to bring carbon footprint reduction and greenhouse gas (GhG) emissions to the forefront of discussions when making decisions about material choices. The company will showcase real-world applications from clients, including Bottle Up, KANE Footwear, Deckers, Gelmart, and DeTerra, highlighting how bio-based solutions are already driving sustainability across industries. Braskem will also host sessions focused on the role of bio-based plastics in reducing Scope 3 emissions, particularly in categories 1 and 12 of the GHG Protocol. KANE Footwear will join Braskem in a breakout session to share its experience using I’m green™ bio-based materials. Visit Braskem at booth #311 to learn more.

“We’re committed to making sustainability practical and measurable for brands,” said Gustavo Lombardi, North America Commercial Lead for I’m green™ bio-based at Braskem North America. “I’m green™ bio-based is a renewable, 100% recyclable solution that offers a proven way to lower carbon emissions without compromising performance or quality. We’re glad to join Sustainable Brands 2025 to share this message with forward-thinking companies that are driving real change, so together we can accelerate the shift to carbon neutrality."

It's like traditional plastic, but made from plants

I’m green™ bio-based plastics are made from plant-based feedstock and offer the same performance and recyclability as traditional plastics. It’s a drop-in solution that offers a negative carbon footprint, meeting the growing demand for more sustainable products without requiring changes to design, function, or consumer experience. "At KANE, every pair we make with Braskem’s I’m green™ bio-based materials helps us reduce our carbon footprint while delivering the performance our consumers expect. This collaboration has been key not only to achieving our sustainability goals today, but also to co-developing the next generation of lower-impact footwear. In addition to our efforts with Braskem, we utilize KANE Project Renew to recycle used shoes into yoga and changing mats, which helps to continue pushing the boundaries of sustainable design and innovation,” shared Jesse Straus, Director of Brand Marketing, KANE Footwear.

15 Years of Experience in Bio-Based Innovation

For 15 years, Braskem has been developing and expanding bio-based polymer solutions made from plants together with its partners. Today, the company operates with a production capacity of 275,000 tons/year of I’m green™ bio-based polyethylene — a 37% increase from its initial project in 2010. This expansion enables the capture of approximately 159,000 tons of CO₂ per year, equivalent to the annual emissions of 12,000 U.S. citizens. By working closely with brands across industries, Braskem has helped bring renewable alternatives into products people use every day.

Driving Sustainable Progress: Braskem’s Ongoing Investment in Renewable Innovation

Braskem also has a Renewable Innovation Center dedicated to accelerating innovation in renewable chemicals and materials. A particular focus is given to early-stage science and engineering related to the conversion of biomass-based feedstocks, including sugars, cellulose, plant oils, and lignin, to sustainable chemicals and materials. The center's purpose is to enhance Braskem's resources focused on the discovery of technologies that will drive new growth-oriented offerings centered around combating climate change.
