Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the newly confirmed U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, shared that President Donald Trump has requested that he "study the safety" of the abortion drug mifepristone. During an interview on Fox News's "The Ingraham Angle" last Thursday, Kennedy explained that the president asked him to "study the safety signals" of the abortion pill, also known as Mifepristone.

"I think that is worth doing," Kennedy said.

He noted how the information about the potential harms caused by the drug were suppressed during the Biden administration, The Christian Post reports.

"During the Biden administration, the [National Institutes of Health] did something that was inexcusable, which is to tell doctors and patients not to report injuries," he said. "That's not a good policy."

Kennedy also stressed the need for "spiritual realignment" to overcome addiction and other health challenges in the United States.

"We're not just in a health crisis, but we're in a spiritual crisis," he said, reiterating the thought he shared in his confirmation hearing last week.

Last week, Kennedy was confirmed as the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services following a 52-48 vote, with all but one Republican Senator supporting him and all Democrats opposing him.

"This is not just [an] economic issue, it's not just a national security issue, it is a spiritual issue, and it is a moral issue," he said at the time.

Kennedy's interview comes as pro-life activists have been pressuring the Trump administration to place further restrictions on Mifepristone following the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's decision to permit doctors to dispense the pill without in-person appointments during the Biden administration.

The dispensation of pills can be obtained by mail and at large retail pharmacies nowadays without a lady needing to visit a doctor to be sure she is not pregnant ectopically.

Pro-life doctors have also warned about potential risks involved in taking abortion pills without a doctor's supervision, referring to the FDA's relaxation of abortion pill standards as a "disregard for human life and safety."
