Pacific Justice Institute (PJI) Founder and President Brad Dacus took a stand for Christian students and parents as the Texas State Board of Education was going through the process of reviewing and changing school curriculum. The changes the board wanted to make would exclude references in educational material that noted America’s religious heritage in connection to its founding, and exclude the use of any Biblical literature, according to the Christian Newswire.
Texas State Board of Education Member Concerned about Direction of Curriculum
A member of the board got in touch with Dacus and asked him to speak in front of the Texas State Board of Education. The member expressed concerns regarding increasing attempts by education leaders to revise the curriculum in the areas of American history and literature.
“Pacific Justice Institute is not advocating for the promotion of religion in public schools,” Dacus told the Christian Newswire. “We are advocating for historical accuracy. The role of faith in the founding of this nation and in its literary tradition is undeniable, and students deserve to learn that truth in full.”
Dacus argued that it’s important to teach students about the religious influences that shaped America's founding. He reasoned that they need to be included in school history and literature classes because those influences are a part of America's national identity. If they aren’t included, students would not only be missing an important part of recognizing American history and literature, but their understanding of it may even end up distorted, according to a press release at the PJI website.
Faith’s Role Regarding the Influence of America’s Laws, Culture, and Foundation
In addition, faith has played a significant role in the way America's laws, culture, and foundation have been influenced. Dacus said he believes this truth is something that students deserve to know regarding living life in America.
“It is both historically and academically appropriate to recognize the influence of the Bible and other faith-based sources as part of our nation’s development. To exclude them entirely is not neutrality—it is revisionism,” Dacus told the Christian Newswire.
“Students deserve an honest and complete education,” Dacus added. “That includes understanding the ideas, influences, and texts that helped shape our nation and its people.”
PJI specializes in defending religious freedom, parental rights, and other civil liberties, according to their website. They are a 501 (c) (3) legal defense organization with 36 offices in 26 states coast to coast, and many more nationwide. They make an effort to ensure that everyone gets help.
Brad Dacus received his Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law and later founded PJI in 1997. Since that time, He’s been interviewed on many platforms such as FOX News, The Epoch Times, Good Morning America, and Tucker Carlson Tonight. He also hosts his own show, “Faith and Law,” which streams on several platforms nationwide, according to the PJI website.
