Marquette upset Wisconsin, Louisiana-Lafayette gets win

BOONE, N.C. (AP) — No. 20 Louisiana-Lafayette overcame three snaps over the punter’s head and another bad one on a extra point, beating Appalachian State 24-21 on a cold, rainy Friday night when the Mountaineers’ Chandler Staton missed a 30-yard field goal with 2 seconds left. Running back Trey Ragas scored three touchdowns, and Levi Lewis threw for 101 yards and a touchdown and ran for 77 yards to help the Ragin’ Cajuns beat Appalachian State for the first time and win their sixth straight game. Louisiana-Lafayette was 0-8 against Appalachian State, including losses in the last two conference championship games.

UNDATED (AP) — Justin Lewis scored 18 points and converted a putback off a missed free throw at the buzzer as Marquette knocked off No. 4 Wisconsin 67-65 on Friday night. Marquette’s D.J. Carton was just inside the 3-point arc when he drew a foul with nine-tenths of a second left. The second attempt bounced off the rim and Lewis tapped the ball with his right hand. The freshman’s shot hit the front of the rim and went off the backboard before falling through the basket as his teammates mobbed him.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Matthew Hurt scored 24 points, including six of Duke’s 13 3-pointers, and the No. 6 Blue Devils used a 19-2 run in the second half to cruise past Bellarmine 76-54. The Blue Devils raced to leads of 17-4 and 25-15 in the first half behind 48% shooting with six 3-pointers, one more than they hit in Tuesday’s 75-69 loss to eighth-ranked Michigan State. Hurt kept up his hot shooting and finished 9 of 12 from the field, including 6 of 8 from long range. Nick Thelen had 14 points and Ethan Claycomb 13 for Bellarmine, which debuted as a Division I program.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Eugene Omoruyi scored 22 points in his second straight strong game and No. 21 Oregon all but shut down Seton Hall star Sandro Mamukelashvili in an 83-70 victory. Oregon bounced back from an 83-75 loss to Missouri in its opener. The Ducks didn’t pull away until the last eight minutes, when they went on a 14-4 run and built a 16-point lead. It took Mamukelashvili 15 minutes to score, and that was a bank-in 3 from the wing. He didn’t score again until he dunked with about five minutes left. Seton Hall is off to its worst start since 1982-83. Shavar Reynolds Jr. led the Pirates with 17 points.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Mac McClung scored 17 of his 20 points in the first half and Texas Tech beat Troy 80-46 in a replacement game for both teams. The Red Raiders were supposed to play St. John’s this week before the New York City school balked at making the trip to Texas as coronavirus infections surge. The Trojans couldn’t go to Wake Forest because of COVID-19 issues for the Demon Deacons.
